What we do...

Despite  hurricanes, a pandemic, and even an earthquake we have been consistently maintaining the 642 acre areas of Punta Borinquen on a monthly basis since July of 2013.  We, along with our subcontracted workers and collaborators,  are currently responsible for all of the maintenance of the  area that corresponds to the areas of  Survival Beach to Wilderness Beach .  This includes trimming & mowing and biweekly trash pickup

In addition to the physical improvements of the area and manual labor, we also host an array of different community events. We also sponsor  monthly FREE yoga for the first Saturday of the month, monthly community meetings, and RPBQN Experiences educational seminars the last Friday of the month.  For more information see the  "News and Events" tab.

Top 10 Achivements

We are a very dynamic nonprofit organization so compiling the "Top 10 Achievement" over the last 11 years was a bit hard, but here are a few of our favorites!

Punta Borinquen Bridge

One of our first "major projects" was to restore the original bridge to Punta Borinquen Beach. We teamed up with Alejandro Proskauer-Valaerio for his Eagle Scout project in spring of 2016. After hurricane damage, we revamped the bridge to make it more resilient by  reinforcing and elevating the base and making it wider for better accessibility. This was an additional investment of $7,500.

Surfer's Beach Mural

On January 28, 2023 we organized a "Community Art Project". For this event we collaborated with several different artists, Kirt Ziegler & Manuel  "gOnzo" González, to create a 150 ft mural. With 72 volunteers, we beautified this retaining wall to better than original condition. We cleared the excess overgrowth, pressure washed, painted, and prepped the cement embankment to paint our mural and add the 6'x6' photo images. What a beautiful transformation!

Signage

For an overall investment of $22,166.55 we were able to replace and install 49 different signs throughout the Borinquen recreational area. These signs are multipurpose and serve to educate, warn, direct, and inform the public so the park is safer, welcoming, and beautiful. The signs range from rip current awareness, surf etiquette, historical information and mapping amongst others. What an improvement these signs make!

On December 6, 2014 we were able to rehabilitate the area of the former Spanish Light House Ruins. This included removing decades of graffiti, trash, and weeds. We also installed a sign, and entrance border.
